Registered Psychotherapist

Jenifer LaFrance, M.F.A., DVATI, RP

Jen is a Certified Professional Art Therapist and a member in good standing with CATA (Canadian Art Therapy Association) and a Registered Psychotherapist with the CRPO (College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario). She grew up in Northern Ontario spending most of her youth in Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout. In 2013 she completed her Honours Bachelor or Fine Art degree at Lakehead University followed by her Masters of Fine Art degree from The University of British Columbia in 2016. Her education is rooted in creation and art making and she loves to share this space with others. She attended the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute and graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Art Therapy in 2018. When she is not working you will find her restoring and decorating her old home one room at a time. She also enjoys golfing and spending lots of time with family. She has two miniature bull terriers who are full of energy and love to cause trouble.

As a registered mental health practitioner with NIHB, Jen has worked in and with Indigenous communities since 2019. She is especially keen to work with First Nations youth and although not of Indigenous ancestry, has developed a level of cultural humility and sensitivity while continuing to learn each day, embracing the beautiful traditions and teachings when they are offered to her. From her studies and practical experience, she sees art-making as a gateway to the healing process, which works outside of and alongside traditional counselling.
